Clean Eating Granola

After filming numerous breakfast videos with eggs and high protein ingredients, I thought I had better start doing a few videos for non egg lovers.

Now, there is definitely mixed opinions on Granola and its sugar content, when I read the ingredients on the back of many supermarket packets, it wasn’t a sup prise that most of these were sugar heavy.

I wanted to try an create a slightly less sugary breakfast for my wife, who isn’t a massive fan of eggs, let alone first thing in the morning.

With the granola, I decided to drop the brown sugar and instead use high grade maple syrup, with maple syrup you must make sure that its something like a grade B, make sure you check as in the States, lots of maple syrups are processed or don’t even contain maple sap!. This I find very frustrating, to take a natural product (within reason) and then miss sell it as something else like corn syrup.

Granola can be made by just using the olive oil to crisp the ingredients, I however do prefer the taste of a little maple to give it a little sweetness, now I know sugar is terrible for us and even honey and maple must be eaten in sensible doses as even natural sugars can induce weight gain. I tend to eat anything sweet, straight after a workout, this takes advantage of spiking your blood sugars which goes to your sore muscle rather than storing as fat. Try not to eat anything sweet before a workout!.

This breakfast is a winner in our household, it keeps for months and you can pre prepare in batches. Let me know if you recreate this breakfast and always send me a pic #hasteskitchen to instagram or twitter. @hasteskitchen

I hope you all enjoy the video and watch out for my next VERY easy breakfast.
