This has to be classed as my top Norwich, local, go to pub, to me its very much based on top London bars like Shoreditch house, dean street townhouse and soho house. It has a fantastic feel with kids running free, families young and old dining and the surroundings are cool, clean and fresh. It has an outside space equally fitting with BBQ pit, play area for the kids, ample seating, ping pong tables, bar, pizzeria and chilling areas. To be honest you’d be hard pushed to find anywhere better in the summer than the Georgian Townhouse outside areas. I have two kids who I can leave to play in either the inside or outside areas, (I don’t mean tacky call pits either) but rather a room full of the latest toys, tv and chalk boards. We can then sit outside the room with our sauvignon blanc. :0)
I have recently discovered that the Georgian Townhouse was refurbished after spending time as a school house, a war time hospital and a hotel, you will find an abundance of history hidden in the details of the building. With an enormous walled garden, loads of locally sourced quality produce, an interesting mix of craft beers, wines and spirits, The Georgian Townhouse seamlessly merges Georgian charm with a modern offbeat attitude, lashings of style, and a wealth of personality.
I also have to add that if you’re staying in Norwich for work or pleasure, the 7 boutique bedrooms are pretty special with their individual Smeg fridges, quality furniture and quicker bathrooms.
The pub has a little sister in the centre of the city too, the St Andrews Tap house will be reviewed separately to the Townhouse for ease of visibility on this blog.
Now, I can’t review the pub without telling you all about the food too? With the bars abundance of fine craft beers and over 50 Gins, its easy to choose a great drink to match your food, or settle down with the warmed, Christmas mulled cider in winter and a chilled, summer cup cocktail in the warmer months.
The food is good too with a constantly changing menu, adapted throughout the seasons by using locally sourced and seasonal produce. Ive attached a few pics from the serving plates, roasts and deserts.
We regularly visit on a Sunday for a nice family roast, the kids love the qtr roast chicken with corn on the cob and crispy fries, we opt for the chicken or beef with giant Yorkshire puddings. If you visit here and have a review, feel free to send it to me on my contact form, I will be sure to add this to the Hastes Kitchen vault.
Really tons of awesome material.
