I’m hoping you’re reading this after watching my recent fun video on Youtube with my son Harry, we created some easy and fun porridge smiles to raise awareness about the charity i’m working with called Marys Meals.

Haste’s Kitchen is celebrating World Porridge Day on 10th October and bringing a smile to a hungry child… with porridge!

World Porridge Day raises awareness of a charity called Mary’s Meals, which provides nutritious meals to 1.1 million of the world’s poorest children every day they attend school.

The daily meal allows poor children – who might otherwise be working or begging – to come to school and gain an education that can help them to escape poverty in the future.

In Malawi – where Mary’s Meals has its largest school feeding programme – the children receive a nutritious mug of maize porridge (locally called likuni phala) every school day. It is difficult to imagine, but, for many children, the meal they receive at school is their only meal each day.

It’s so easy to get involved and make a hungry child smile with porridge. Create your own porridge smile using tasty toppings and provide a child with life-changing meals for a month! Here’s how:

Step one
Create your porridge smile using tasty toppings

Step two
Text ‘OATS16 £2’ to 70070 to provide a hungry child with school meals for a month

Step three
Post a picture of your porridge smile to Twitter/Instagram/Facebook using the hashtag #PorridgeSmiles

And you’re done! I’d love to see your creative porridge smiles creations, so don’t forget to tag @hasteskitchen and @marysmeals in your posts.

World Porridge Day celebrates the huge difference this daily mug of porridge makes to the lives of hungry children. Amazingly, it costs just £12.20 to feed a child for a whole school year with Mary’s Meals, and 93p of every £1 is spent directly on their charitable activities! Thanks so much for reading and helping with this fantastic charity. X
