So, we are currently two weeks in on the hydration challenge and I’m pleased to say it’s going really well!

After kitting the family out with large water bottles, we are all finding it pretty easy to stay at 8-10 glasses of water per day. In fact I would say I’m drinking well over this amount. I also decided I would go the full hog and have given up alcohol for two weeks, the results are incredible. I feel bright eyed, focused and can definitely see a difference in my body shape already.

I feel lean and the scales have shown a 3lb per week weight loss, yep 6lbs in two week! I’m pretty sure the weight loss is down to the calorie content of alcohol, also digestion improves with higher water consumption as water helps to dissolve fats and soluble fiber. The extra H2O helps us eat less by making us feel full quicker and it can also boost metabolism. It’s not uncommon to put on weight by mistaking thirst for hunger. Next time you feel fatigued or sluggish, try drinking more water, you’ll be surprised how often we make this mistake!

Nicola has been away in America filming for a good amount of the two week period, however her water in take is regularly around 8-10 cups per day so this hasn’t really changed her lifestyle so far. The kids are loving this too as I’m usually the Dad that doesn’t want to stop the car when the kids constantly need the toilet! I am now a regular on the side of the road with the kids bum¹s on show as they need wee’s a lot more! 🙂

Zip were very kind in getting me a really cool branded bottle, this is Edies favourite thing! She comes into my room every morning to get the special bottle bless her, she’s not a big fan of drinking water constantly, but she’s been pretty good with this challenge and the fact she has a special bottle has given it a little novelty.

Now, here’s the main thing I’ve noticed! Drinking more water has made me feel refreshed and it’s actually improved my state of mind, I’m currently studying a diploma in nutrition and I’ve noticed my attention has improved. As I study at night, I¹m finding it so much easier to remain focussed. Did you know that you don’t even have to be severely in need of water, for it to benefit you, even mild dehydration has been shown to have negative impact on your mood. So there you go, that’s my two week update and I’m not calling this a challenge now,  it’s my new way of life, I couldn’t imagine drinking less anymore!
